Uber officially launches in San Diego

Uber San DiegoAfter being under wraps for roughly a month, Uber is officially launching in San Diego today, June 7th.

Kicking off its presence in May with Tony Hawk as “Rider Zero,” the city has been swarming with “secret Uberers” who have been helping test the service in limited availability. Uber’s official arrival is very welcome in America’s Finest City, where parking downtown and in beach communities can be a hassle and taxi service is inconsistent.

Using Uber, riders can request a car via iPhone or Android app, text message, or the web and be picked up in a stylish towncar within minutes. Payment is handled within the app – including tip – and there’s no need to carry cash.

Ride charges are determined with a base fare, ride distance (if going over 11 MPH), and a time fare (if going below 11 MPH).

Uber is currently offering service in nearly a dozen other cities including New York City, Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco.

You can follow Uber’s local service on Twitter at @Uber_SD. (If you’re lucky, keep an eye on the Twitter account and you might be able to snag a code for a complementary Uber ride!)
