Vibe Coding: Moving to Cursor and Version Control

May 26 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Browser-based tools like Claude, Bolt, and Lovable are great for getting started. But as your project grows, you will hit their limits. You need to work across multiple files, keep track of changes, and have more control over your project structure. That is where Cursor comes in.

This session walks you through the transition from browser tools to Cursor, a code editor with AI built in. You will also learn the basics of version control with Git so you never lose your work and can always undo a mistake.

If the idea of a “code editor” sounds intimidating, do not worry. You do not need to understand the code. You need to know where things are and how to tell the AI what to change.

What You Will Learn

•      Why and when to move to Cursor. The signs that you have outgrown browser tools and what you gain by switching.

•      Setting up Cursor. Installation, opening a project, and getting oriented in the interface. We will demystify the file tree, the terminal, and the editor.

•      Getting your code out of browser tools. How to export your project from Claude, Bolt, Lovable, or Replit into a folder Cursor can work with.

•      How Cursor’s AI works differently. In browser tools the AI sees your conversation. In Cursor it sees your files. You will learn how to prompt effectively in this new context.

•      Basic version control with Git. Commit, revert, and branch. Just enough so you can save your progress, undo mistakes, and never lose work.

What You Will Walk Away With

•      Cursor installed and working on your laptop with your project loaded.

•      Your first successful edit made through Cursor’s AI.

•      A basic Git workflow you can use going forward.

Pre-Session Setup (Required)

This session requires some setup before we start. You will receive a checklist 48 hours before the session with instructions for installing Cursor and Git on your machine. Please complete the setup before arriving so we can dive straight into working.

Prerequisites

This session assumes you have some experience building with AI coding tools. You will get the most out of it if:

•      You have a working project built with a browser-based AI coding tool.

•      You are comfortable prompting an AI to build and modify features.

•      You have completed the pre-session setup checklist.

What to Bring

•      A laptop with a browser (all tools we use are web-based)

•      A project you are working on or want to start

•      A laptop with Cursor and Git installed (setup checklist will be sent in advance)

Part of the From Prototype to Product Series

This is Session 1 of 10 in the Vibe Coding: From Prototype to Product workshop series. Each session stands alone, but the full series is designed as a progression from first build to finished product.

Full series ticket holders get access to all 10 sessions, weekly lab sessions for live troubleshooting, recordings of every session, and Founder Guide community access. Full series: $480 (10 sessions for the price of 8). Visit the series page for details.
