Join film, television and media professionals from across the region for a press event supporting the San Diego County Film Initiative ahead of the crucial Board of Supervisors vote on the future of filmmaking in San Diego. Learn how a County film office, film commission, and rebate program can create jobs, attract productions, support local businesses, and help San Diego compete.
Emceed by SD County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre and sponsored by sdcfilminitiative.com.
Here’s the IATSE President’s letter:
As of yesterday, Supervisor Aguirre’s office has officially submitted—and made public—a Board Letter initiating county-level work to establish a County-led Film Office, Film Commission, and incentive structure for filming in San Diego County.
This marks a major leap forward and represents the first step toward making the San Diego County Film Initiative a reality.
The attached Board Letter will be brought before the County Board of Supervisors on April 21, sometime in the afternoon. During the meeting, there will be an opportunity for public comment, which we plan to attend and speak at, followed by a vote on whether to move the initiative forward. Three of the five votes will be needed for approval, and we are optimistic about a positive outcome.
I am reaching out to ask if you would be interested and willing to submit an official letter of support as a leader within your business, institution, office, or organization. To make this as easy as possible, I’ve attached a template letter for your use, though personalized letters are also very welcome and greatly appreciated. You can send the document with your letter head back to me as I am putting together a packet for the supervisors.
Additionally, we will be holding a press conference on April 20 at 10:00 a.m., the day before the vote, outside the County Administration Building—similar to the one we held last month—to highlight this important step for the region. If you’re interested in attending and/or speaking at the press conference or the Board meeting, please let me know. If you would like to speak, please email me directly, as we are currently planning our presentations.
I am deeply grateful for the incredible support this growing community has shown for this effort. Your advocacy has not gone unnoticed and is making a meaningful impact at a critical moment. Thank you all, and I hope to see many of you next week.
