CreativeMornings -Delana Delgado

February 23 @ 8:15 am - 9:00 am

Delana Delgado (b.1990) is a Puerto Rican photographer and D.I.Y. arts organizer. Born and raised in San Diego, California to Nuyorican parents, she applies her training as an anthropologist to her work as an artist and organizer to showcase the vibrant culture and community she belongs to.

Delgado is a long-time advocate for accessibility in the arts and the decolonization of historically classist and hierarchical art institutions. She began her practice as an arts organizer in 2015 with the co-creation of Artform Swapmeet, a forum to showcase artists and musicians and highlight community resources. In 2020 when gathering was no longer possible due to an ongoing global health crisis, Delgado took AFSM online and immersed herself in her long-time hobby; photography.

Delgado founded ‘Around the Way Girls’, a visual ethnographic group project that pays homage to the culture and women who raised and inspired her. Her photos have been highlighted by the San Diego Museum of Photographic Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and displayed on a state-wide billboard campaign through the California Endowment for the Arts
