SUMMARY:The AGI Transition: How AI Affects Work and Life
DESCRIPTION:A free\, public workshop—no technical background needed\nArtificial intelligence is no longer just getting better at narrow tasks—it’s beginning to look general. Many researchers believe we’re entering the early stages of the AGI transition: a period where AI systems start to match or exceed human abilities across a wide range of domains.\nThis workshop explores what AGI actually means\, how to think about it intuitively (without hype or jargon)\, and what this transition could mean for your job\, your relationships\, and your day-to-day life—much sooner than most people expect.\nTogether\, we’ll explore questions like:\nWhat is AGI?\nHow do experts define artificial general intelligence\, and how is it different from today’s AI tools?\nWork & Jobs:\nWhich kinds of jobs are already being automated or transformed—and which ones experts believe are most likely to remain resilient?\nHuman Connection:\nHow is AI starting to replace or supplement roles once filled by coworkers\, friends\, tutors\, therapists\, and companions?\nWhat you’ll get: \n\nA clear\, beginner-friendly explanation of AGI and why it matters\nReal-world examples of how AI is already reshaping work and social life\nLive demos that highlight both impressive capabilities and emerging risks\nInteractive discussion and exercises to test your own intuitions about the future\n\nCome ready to grapple with one of the biggest transitions humanity may ever face—a shift that could redefine not just how we work\, but how we relate to each other\, find meaning\, and navigate a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines.

SUMMARY:Advancing Connection Science: A Convening on Physical & Digital Connections
DESCRIPTION:An interactive\, student-led experience where participants become co-designers of connection at UC San Diego. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat helps people build meaningful connections?\nHow do physical and digital spaces shape our sense of belonging?\nHow can we design a campus where everyone has the opportunity to thrive?\n\nJoin us for the first event in the Advancing Connection Science Convening Series\, an interactive\, student-led experience where participants become co-designers of connection at UC San Diego. \nRather than simply listening to presentations\, you’ll collaborate across disciplines to share ideas\, reflect on lived experiences\, and identify research priorities and practical solutions that strengthen connection on campus. Your voice will directly contribute to shaping future research\, programs\, and initiatives. \nThe convening will also feature an interactive art activity hosted by special guests from the UC San Diego Craft Center\, offering a creative opportunity to explore and reflect on what connection means to you. \nThe convening will also feature an interactive art activity hosted by special guests from the UC San Diego Craft Center\, offering a creative opportunity to explore and reflect on what connection means to you. \n✨Free lunch provided! ✨No research experience required – just curiosity and a willingness to collaborate. \nWe welcome four panelists to our first convening: Annika Nelson\, Elizabeth Eikey\, Jessica D’Elena-Tweed\, and William Simpson. \n\n\n\n\nTogether\, we’ll explore: \n\nHow physical and digital spaces shape connection\nWhat makes people feel welcome and included\nHow campuses can foster meaningful relationships through thoughtful design\n\nThis is the first of three student-led convenings exploring the science of connection through the lenses of empathy\, compassion\, and belonging. Future convenings will be held on November 12\, 2026\, and tentatively in February 2027. While each convening can be attended independently\, we encourage participants to join all three to help co-create a shared vision for advancing connection science at UC San Diego. \nBy registering\, you are acknowledging your awareness that campus communication will be on-site taking photos/videos. \nThis convening series is a collaboration between the Center for Empathy and Social Justice in Human Health and the Center for Mindfulness\, supported by UC San Diego’s Strategic Convene & Influence Award.

SUMMARY:SUSTAINABLE BY DESIGN: HOW CAN WE BUILD AI FOR A CLIMATE-FORWARD FUTURE
DESCRIPTION:AI is moving fast. Climate challenges aren’t waiting. So what happens when we bring the two conversations together? \nWe’re excited to bring AI Mastermind and The Optimist Circuit together for a special community event during San Diego Climate Week\, exploring one of the most important questions at the intersection of technology and sustainability: \nHow can we shape the way AI is built\, deployed\, and used to create a more sustainable future? \nAI is changing how we work\, build\, and solve problems. But as the technology scales\, so does its impact on our energy\, resources\, businesses\, and communities. This evening is about creating a space to step back\, learn\, and explore what responsible\, climate-conscious AI can actually look like. \n🌎 The evening includes: \n\n\nA short presentation on the intersection of AI\, climate\, and sustainability \n\n\nA featured discussion with leaders working across AI\, innovation\, and climate \n\n\nBreakout conversations to exchange ideas\, perspectives\, and potential solutions \n\n\nCommunity networking to connect people building\, investing in\, and thinking about the future of AI \n\n\nMost importantly\, we’re creating the room to learn from each other and explore solutions together. \nWhether you build AI\, invest in it\, work in sustainability\, or simply want to better understand where technology is heading\, you belong in the conversation. \nCome curious. Bring your questions. Leave with new ideas\, new connections\, and a bigger perspective on what we can build together. \nMeet the Hosts \nAI Mastermind is a San Diego community for people who want to learn\, build\, and share around AI\, bringing together builders\, founders\, professionals\, and curious minds to explore what’s possible with emerging technology. \nThe Optimist Circuit is a podcast that is building the circuit connecting AI\, tech\, nature\, and people to spark optimism and power solutions for society. \nBy registering for this event\, you agree to share your registration information with the organizers of San Diego Climate Week and our event platform partner\, Climatebase. SUMMARY:How Do You Ensure Quality of AI-Generated Code?
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is building software with AI these days. It works great if you building something small\, but what if you want to build something bigger? What if you want to release an actual product? How do you ensure quality of that application as it is built and evolves rapidly? \nI realized this was going to be the problem a couple years ago and built 50 Ants to solve it. It automates the testing process with agents and tests everything from the outside to help you build a true operational product. It tests functionality\, security\, performance\, AI safety\, and more than 24 dimensions.10

SUMMARY:SD ISSA InfoSec Networking Lunch (October)
DESCRIPTION:Topic: From Battlefields to Breaches – DFIR Trends and the Veteran Pathway into Cybersecurity \n\n\nLunch will be provided \n\n\nOverview: \nJoin GuidePoint Security’s Tony Cook and Paul Keener for a dynamic session that bridges the front lines of Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR) with the untapped potential of military veterans in cybersecurity. \nThe session kicks off with a look at the latest DFIR trends shaping the threat landscape\, including a live walkthrough of a recent case leveraging AI. From ransomware evolution to AI-assisted investigations\, attendees will gain firsthand insight into how today’s incident responders are adapting to an increasingly complex battlefield. \nThe conversation then shifts to one of cybersecurity’s greatest force multipliers: military veterans. The transition from military service to a civilian cybersecurity career is one of the most disorienting\, and rewarding journeys a veteran can take. Tony and Paul will share their own transition stories\, the lessons learned\, and why veterans bring a built-in competitive edge: mission focus\, composure under pressure\, team-first mentality\, and a security mindset forged in environments where the stakes are real. \nWhether you’re a transitioning service member exploring your options\, a hiring manager looking to tap into veteran talent\, or a cybersecurity professional curious about the veteran-to-cyber pipeline\, this session delivers actionable insights and real-world perspective. Attendees will also learn about the VetSec program and community\, a mentorship-driven network of veterans helping veterans accelerate their path into cybersecurity careers.
