SUMMARY:Where is AI in 2026 and Where is it Going?
DESCRIPTION:A free\, public workshop — no technical background needed. \nIn just a few years\, AI has advanced at a pace that stunned even leading experts. These systems aren’t science fiction anymore — they’re reshaping work\, relationships\, and even crime in real time. This workshop explores where AI may be in the next 1–5 years and what that means for your daily life. \nTogether\, we’ll tackle urgent questions like: \n\n\nJobs: Could AI lead to mass unemployment — or entirely new kinds of work? \n\n\nCrime: How might AI supercharge scams\, hacking\, and even physical crime? \n\n\nCompanions: Will people form deep emotional bonds — or even romantic relationships — with AI assistants? \n\n\nSociety: How do top researchers think these trends will shape our future? \n\n\nWhat you’ll get: \n\n\nA fast-paced\, beginner-friendly overview of today’s most powerful AI systems \n\n\nLive demos that reveal both the breakthroughs and the risks \n\n\nAn interactive forecasting exercise where you’ll test your own predictions about AI’s impact \n\n\nCome ready to explore a future arriving faster than most people realize — one that could transform not just how we work\, but how we trust\, connect\, and even love.

SUMMARY:Diving deeper into software development discussions
DESCRIPTION:• What we’ll do\nCome join in discussions about Vim\, Emacs\, Linux\, Elixir\, Erlang\, OTP\, Lisp\, Haskell\, Ruby\, Javascript\, Functional Programming\, Object Oriented Programming\, Blockchain\, HashGraph\, Distributed Systems\, Decentralized Systems\, and whatever peaks your interest. \n• What to bring\nA laptop\, good questions\, exciting ideas\, an open mind and a positive attitude. \n• Where to meet\nMeet by the corn hole game in the back and look for others with laptops.\nAsk for others that are there for the software discussion group. \n• Alternate location\nSome nights the Rabbit Hole has live music. I was not able to pin down\nan exact schedule\, just sometimes we would show up and there would be a band but most times there was not. As an alternate location on live music nights the discussion group could be moved just down the street to Lestats coffee shop. They have great coffee and a nice atmosphere for hanging out and discussing software. \n• Important to know\nThis is a self organizing open discussion group that is meant to be organic\, with no main speaker or leader. It is just a time and a place for like minded people to come together to talk about software. \n• Background\nWhen I was staying in SD (Jan-Aug 2018) I was teaching software development at UCSD and the Meetup gave my cohort a space to dive further into topics that the curriculum did not allow time for. When the class was over and I went back to traveling full time\, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to leave the Meetup going and see if people would still gather to discuss software without someone to lead it. I liked the idea of a group that did not require some one to always lead it. A lot off Meetups I have been to before were always one or two people doing a lot of work to organize and put on talks but everyone else just shows up to consume and doesn’t really participate that much. Kinda like going to a movie\, in a way. The idea for this group is that it is what people make it. You get out of it what you put into it. It’s great that people are showing up still and I hope you have some great discussions. When I get back to San Diego (planning on a handful of times a year) and there is a meeting I will stop by and hang out and invite my cohort of previous students.

SUMMARY:FilmNet's Monthly Event
DESCRIPTION:Happy New Year\, everyone! Let’s march into 2026 with renewed energy and focus on our shared goals\, to make this the year we really come together to make our dreams come true. This month the attention will be on the art of cinematography\, on that special window into what our visions ought to look like on the screen. \nIt is said that there are four directors: the screenwriter\, the actual director\, the cinematographer and the editor. Each brings their own skills and vision and each puts their own unique stamp on the final product. The January panel\, moderated by producer/actor Anthony De La Cruz\, includes Mike Logan of Spark Studios and Kraftwerks Productions\, Jeff Arballo of Arballo Entertainment\, Mauricio Navarro of Influence Films\, and student filmmaker Daniel Hernandez. Panelists will discuss why they chose to be cinematographers as well as equipment they use and their current projects\, followed by audience Q & A. \nWe also have a SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT about a future FilmNet offering\, so be sure to keep your antennae up and your ears unplugged! \nBack by popular demand . . . SUSHI and POKE BOWLS by celebrity Chef Mer! And as always\, we’ll be enjoying a red carpet and photo stations c/o Tony Amat and our beloved partner R3 Productions\, drinks for sale\, a studio tour (get there at 4:30 pm!)\, more free headshots and lots of glitzy\, campy\, Hollywood-style fun. And of course\, more exciting networking opportunities to give you the chance to make ALL the connections you really want to make. \n********************************* \nFilmmakers Network San Diego’s Monthly Event is back!!! At long last we’re starting up monthly networking events again to support the local film community. It’s going to be even more hands-on\, interactive and productive this time. Besides networking and hosting guest speakers\, we will showcase short films and promo material\, work on pitches and invite industry gatekeepers to hear them\, put on fun games and contests as well as many more enriching activities. Networking includes supporting local producers\, creators\, actors\, crew and film professionals in their effort to assemble teams and develop content and marketing opportunities\, along with original FilmNet content and a documentary of our group\, events\, participants and their projects. Feel free to bring a guest or two! Below is the schedule for our first meeting: \n4:30–6:30 / Studio tour\, doors open for sign-up and seating\n6:30–7:15 / Intros and success stories\n7:15–8:15 / Cinematography panel\, \, Q & A\n8:15–9:00 / Special announcement\, networking \nActors\, feel free to bring headshots. Business cards or any promotional materials a plus. $5.00 admission at the event. \nKarl – 858-752-9985 (text)

SUMMARY:VibeCraft Power Hour
DESCRIPTION:VibeCraft is a recurring\, collaborative working session where ideas turn into experiments and experiments turn into real builds. Each session is shaped by the group. We review what is emerging\, explore new directions\, and decide together what is worth building next. \nThis is not a presentation or a passive meetup. It is an active\, hands-on environment where members contribute ideas\, react to each other’s work\, and influence the direction of future sessions. Expect open discussion\, live demos\, shared whiteboards\, and practical exploration. \nSessions may include live walkthroughs of tools\, automations\, and AI agents\, discussions around product and company design\, rapid demos from members\, and breakdowns of different approaches to building with modern AI systems. Topics evolve over time\, but the focus remains the same: learning by doing\, building in public\, and exploring a high-tech\, high-touch future grounded in curiosity\, collaboration\, and thoughtful design. \nCome ready to participate\, share what you are building\, and help shape what we explore next as a VibeCraft community.

SUMMARY:1 Million Cups
DESCRIPTION:1 Million Cups is a weekly event for entrepreneurs\, by entrepreneurs — built on the belief that conversations over coffee can accelerate innovation. Each week\, two founders take the stage to pitch their business for six minutes\, followed by 20 minutes of honest\, constructive feedback from a room full of fellow entrepreneurs\, business professionals\, students\, and curious minds.\nThis isn’t a pitch competition — it’s a collaborative environment where ideas are refined\, challenges are unpacked\, and next steps become clearer. Attendees are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions\, offer insights\, and share resources that help presenters grow. \nWhether you’re launching your first startup\, scaling your next venture\, or just looking to get plugged into your local entrepreneurial ecosystem\, 1 Million Cups is where you’ll find the energy\, perspective\, and community you need to move forward. \nCome for the coffee. Stay for the conversation. Leave with a better business.

SUMMARY:Coworking with some San Diego Digital Designers
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes you just want to be surrounded by percolating design minds. At this gathering\, bring your laptop and work on whatever’s on your plate that day — now surrounded by like minds. \nThis is your chance to see Figma on the next screen over. To chat through a perplexing interaction design. To focus\, inspired\, on your portfolio. \nAs with all SDDD events\, this is a casual\, personal\, and quiet-ish meeting of designers. Introvert- and extrovert-friendly. Coworking\, collaboration\, and conversation\, not networking. \nWe’ve got wifi and power (duh)\, I’ll brew up a fresh batch of coffee\, and we’ve got some tasty teas. What else do you need? (No\, srsly\, what else do you need?) \nPriority will be given to SDDD members (joining is easy — assuming you are a digital designer in San Diego — and free at sddd.org). \nHit up the chat here in Meetup — or #events in Slack — with any questions. \nLimited capacity\, so please RSVP accurately! 🙂 \nSee you there!

SUMMARY:Discover what type of founder you are
DESCRIPTION:Today founders are expected to master everything. We start from a different place. \nThis is a small-group workshop on Founder Fit — understanding your entrepreneurial nature so you can build from strength\, not exhaustion. \nWhat we’ll cover:\n→ Where you’re naturally strong — and how to build on it\n→ Where you systematically struggle — and what to do about it\n→ Which tasks give you energy and which drain it\n→ Who you need around you to cover your blind spots \nWe’ll work through real founder situations: co-founder conflicts\, delegation failures\, different thinking styles. And we’ll show how Neuroiam — an AI platform that maps human nature to practical decisions — helps founders understand themselves\, their team\, and their best growth path. \nStop fixing yourself. Start building around yourself. \nHosted by Perseverance × Neuroiam\nSpeakers: Antony Art & Lena SM
