SUMMARY:Diving deeper into software development discussions
DESCRIPTION:• What we’ll do\nCome join in discussions about Vim\, Emacs\, Linux\, Elixir\, Erlang\, OTP\, Lisp\, Haskell\, Ruby\, Javascript\, Functional Programming\, Object Oriented Programming\, Blockchain\, HashGraph\, Distributed Systems\, Decentralized Systems\, and whatever peaks your interest. \n• What to bring\nA laptop\, good questions\, exciting ideas\, an open mind and a positive attitude. \n• Where to meet\nMeet by the corn hole game in the back and look for others with laptops.\nAsk for others that are there for the software discussion group. \n• Alternate location\nSome nights the Rabbit Hole has live music. I was not able to pin down\nan exact schedule\, just sometimes we would show up and there would be a band but most times there was not. As an alternate location on live music nights the discussion group could be moved just down the street to Lestats coffee shop. They have great coffee and a nice atmosphere for hanging out and discussing software. \n• Important to know\nThis is a self organizing open discussion group that is meant to be organic\, with no main speaker or leader. It is just a time and a place for like minded people to come together to talk about software. \n• Background\nWhen I was staying in SD (Jan-Aug 2018) I was teaching software development at UCSD and the Meetup gave my cohort a space to dive further into topics that the curriculum did not allow time for. When the class was over and I went back to traveling full time\, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to leave the Meetup going and see if people would still gather to discuss software without someone to lead it. I liked the idea of a group that did not require some one to always lead it. A lot off Meetups I have been to before were always one or two people doing a lot of work to organize and put on talks but everyone else just shows up to consume and doesn’t really participate that much. Kinda like going to a movie\, in a way. The idea for this group is that it is what people make it. You get out of it what you put into it. It’s great that people are showing up still and I hope you have some great discussions. When I get back to San Diego (planning on a handful of times a year) and there is a meeting I will stop by and hang out and invite my cohort of previous students.

SUMMARY:Bright Business Accelerator powered by Aquillius Institute - Discovery Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Conductor’s Call: Transition from Scientist to CEO \nJoin us every fourth Friday (11:00 AM – 12:30 PM) at the Aquillius Institute. \nMost accelerators promise speed. Bright Business Accelerator promises control. \nIn the heart of San Diego\, a new kind of community is forming. We aren’t here to teach you how to “pitch for pennies” or follow the high-pressure\, equity-stripping models of traditional accelerators. We are here to help you build a scalable Business Operating System (BOS) that functions whether you are in the room or not. \nThe Vision: From Technical Expert to Business Orchestrator \nIf you are a scientist\, an IT specialist\, or a traditional business owner\, you possess deep technical excellence. However\, being the “smartest person in the lab” often leads to the Technician’s Trap—where you are the most exhausted person in your own company. \nThe Bright Business Accelerator\, powered by Aquillius\, is designed to move you from the orchestra pit to the conductor’s podium. You don’t need to be a professional accountant or a veteran attorney; you need to know how to orchestrate them to build a business that is documented\, designable\, and delegable. \nWhy We Are Different \nWhile other programs focus on “the hustle\,” we focus on Engine Engineering. \n• No “Pitching for Investors” Focus: We don’t just prepare you to ask for money. We prepare you to control the growth process and the negotiation\, so when you do meet investors\, you speak from a position of systemic strength\, not desperation. \n• Hands-On Evaluation: We skip the “high-level” fluff. We go deep into the critical aspects that increase your Business Valuation and founder confidence. \n• The BBOS™ Curriculum: Over 10 weeks starting this September\, we install a cohesive operating system covering: \n1. Inner Leadership: Upgrading the “Driver” (you) to handle the “Vehicle” (the business). \n2. Expert Integration: Each session features a “Crew” of vetted professionals—from Business Attorneys and CPAs to Marketing Strategists—who teach you the hard skills needed to delegate with precision. \n3. The 55 Pitch: Mastering the 5-slide\, 5-minute clarity that opens doors with partners and customers alike. \n4. Bright Accountability System™ \nJoin the Pre-Launch Community (April – August) \nBefore our formal 10-week cohort rolls out in September\, we are opening our doors for in-person discovery meetings. These 90-minute sessions are designed to build a pragmatic ecosystem of technology experts\, scientists\, fractional executives\, and sponsors. \nAre you ready to stop “grinding” and start building? \nWhether you have a groundbreaking lab discovery or a traditional business looking for a modern edge\, come share your feedback and join a community that values pragmatism over hype. \nNext Meeting: Fourth Friday of the Month \nTime: 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM \nLocation: Aquillius Institute \nBuild the system. Own the growth. Join the Crew.

SUMMARY:Creative Mornings: Aladrian Goods on Ember
DESCRIPTION:Aladrian Goods is a designer\, communicator\, community builder\, and connector. She spent over a decade shaping experiences at companies like Intuit and Yahoo — crafting the words and flows that millions of people moved through every day. But somewhere along the way\, she started asking a different question: what would it look like to design for genuine human connection? That question led her out of tech and into community\, where she founded For The Goods — a creative studio dedicated to producing people’s best days through intention\, integrity\, empathy\, and energy — and partnered with Future Is Color Studios in Barrio Logan to build something slower\, more intentional\, and more real. Her flagship experience\, the Listening Room\, gathers people around music and asks them to show up fully — with presence\, openness\, and care for the person next to them. She’s guided by the belief that how we listen improves how we connect.

SUMMARY:Digital Pixel Art - DPA: April 23\, 2026 Monthly Meeting 7pm
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL NOTE: Due to a conflict in my schedule\, this months meeting will be happening on the third Thursday of the month\, April 23rd. \nThe boundaries of visual art are changing.\nPhotography\, digital painting\, compositing\, 3D rendering\, and AI-generated imagery are no longer separate conversations — they are converging into something new.\nBe a part of the gathering at Digital Pixel Art (DPA) and join our expanded conversation. \nIf you create with pixels — whether through a camera\, stylus\, software\, rendering engine\, or artificial intelligence — you belong here.\nThis meeting also marks the evolution of our former DPX-AI group into a broader\, more inclusive community. Rather than separating AI from other digital methods\, DPA brings everything together under one creative umbrella.\nBecause today\, the tool matters less than the vision. \n*** \n## What to Expect \n• Member sharing (send me 3-5 image files if you’d like to share: email lavogelart@gmail.com)\n• Continued discussion of how we want this community to grow\n• Exploration of what “digital art” means moving forward \nThis is not about defending old definitions.\nIt’s about exploring new possibilities. \nLet’s step beyond the camera and explore the future of digital art together. \nSee you online. \n— Larry Vogel \nWe will be using the GoToMeeting online service for our meetings. SUMMARY:Inside the Physical Infrastructure Powering Artificial Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:AI may feel software-driven on the surface — models\, prompts\, APIs — but beneath it all sits a rapidly evolving hardware stack that determines what’s possible\, what scales\, and what wins. \nThe Hardware of AI brings together founders\, investors\, and operators building and backing the physical systems behind modern AI: compute\, chips\, sensors\, networking\, power\, cooling\, edge devices\, and advanced manufacturing. \nHosted at Google’s San Diego office\, this event is designed to move past hype and into the real constraints\, tradeoffs\, and opportunities shaping AI’s next decade. \nSpeakers: \nPrasad Modali – Google\, Tensor Silicon \nAlan Benjamin – GigaIO \nJesse Seed – Google\, Silicon \nNaveen Rao – Unconventional AI \nWhy This Matters Now \nAs AI adoption accelerates\, bottlenecks are shifting from algorithms to infrastructure: \n– Compute demand is exploding faster than supply \n– Energy\, cooling\, and latency are becoming first-order design constraints \n– Specialized hardware is reshaping performance\, cost\, and defensibility \n– Edge AI and real-world deployment require new system architectures\n– Understanding AI today means understanding the hardware stack that makes it real. \nWhat We’ll Explore \nExpect a candid\, high-signal conversation around: \nWhere hardware innovation is most critical in the AI stackTradeoffs between general-purpose vs. specialized systemsThe role of custom silicon\, accelerators\, and edge computeHow hardware choices affect AI reliability\, security\, and scaleWhat founders should be designing for now vs. what’s coming next \nFormat \nShort framing discussion to set contextModerated conversation with builders and operatorsCurated networking between founders\, funders\, and technical leadersFood\, drinks\, and time to go deep with the right people\nThis is intentionally designed to encourage real conversations\, not surface-level networking. \nWho Should Be in the Room \nFounders & Operators \nBuilding AI-enabled products that touch the physical worldWorking on hardware-software systems\, not just modelsOperating in robotics\, autonomy\, sensors\, compute\, networking\, or edge AIScaling infrastructure-heavy or capital-intensive platforms \nInvestors & Strategic Partners \nFocused on AI infrastructure\, deep tech\, or hardtechInterested in defensible systems and long-term moatsExploring how hardware shapes AI outcomes and economics \nTechnical Leaders \nHardware engineers\, systems architects\, and platform leadsTeams working on silicon\, data centers\, edge devices\, or embedded AIOperators thinking about scale\, reliability\, and performance in production \nGoogle San Diego \nHosting this conversation at Google underscores a simple reality: the future of AI depends as much on infrastructure and systems engineering as it does on algorithms. \nThis event is about learning from that perspective — and connecting people building the next layer of the stack. \nRising Tide Partners \nRising Tide Partners (RTP) is an investment and ecosystem platform focused on backing founders building the next generation of technology-enabled systems. \nRTP operates at the intersection of capital\, community\, and real-world execution — convening founders\, investors\, operators\, and institutions around critical technologies that shape how industries are built and scaled. \nThrough curated gatherings\, strategic partnerships\, and early-stage investments\, RTP helps founders access the right capital\, expertise\, and networks needed to move complex technologies from concept to real-world impact. \nRequest an Invite \nAttendance is curated to relevant AI founders\, funders\, and builders to keep the conversation high-signal and relevant.

SUMMARY:Platform Engineering & AI - San Diego
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting exploration into the world of open source\, platform engineering and AI! This meetup will feature engaging talks on key technologies and practices driving innovation. \n🎤 Speaker Lineup & Talks: \nTristan Baker | Distinguished Engineer @Intuit \n✨ Intuit Data Strategy \nIntuit’s data strategy positions the company to deliver intelligent and data aware internal tools for its developments teams\, and highly personalized and intelligent experiences for its customers. This talk will get into some of the details of the data strategy\, and discusses where Intuit is headed next. \nRocio Montes | Senior Engineering Manager @ Github \n✨ Scaling Engineering Leadership with AI \nEngineering managers operate across a constant stream of signals\, from monitoring and incidents to project updates and team activity. In this session\, Rocio will share how she uses AI as an aggregation and reasoning layer to turn that signal into action. \nShe will cover practical workflows such as generating structured updates\, analyzing alert patterns and monitor health\, summarizing team activity\, and extracting insights from leadership inputs. The focus is on integrating AI into existing tooling to improve signal quality\, decision speed\, and execution. \nArash Izadi | Senior Software Engineer @ RVO Health \n✨ What is Devbox and why you need it? \nJetify Devbox is a simple\, reproducible way to define exactly what tools your project needs so every developer\, CI job\, and environment runs the same setup\, every time. Instead of brittle README steps or snowflake laptops\, Devbox gives you fast\, isolated\, Nix-powered environments that work out of the box and update safely. Teams should adopt it because it kills “works on my machine\,” speeds up onboarding to minutes\, and makes local dev and CI finally boring\, in the best possible way. \nAgenda:\n\n\n5:00pm: Check In Opens \n\n\n6:00pm: Kickoff \n\n\n6:00pm – 7:30pm: Demos/Talks \n\n\n7:30pm – 8:30pm : Networking & Happy Hour \n\n\nThis meetup is a great opportunity to connect with fellow engineers\, learn about cutting-edge technologies being utilized at Intuit and beyond\, and engage with the open source community. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \n\nAbout Intuit Open Source: \nIntuit is committed to open source.
