SUMMARY:IEEE Lecture - Next Generation Package Technology: How Will Organic Substrates Synergize with 2.5D?
DESCRIPTION:As chiplet packaging proliferates\, a reduction in die interconnect pitch and concomitant increase in escape routing density must be enabled to meet performance and cost targets.  The traditional 2D solution (die on organic substrate) has limitations related to pitch and escape routing capability\, which have promoted a shift to 2.5D technology (die + high density routing interface + organic substrate) in certain application spaces. Conventional thought is that use of a 2.5D solution can enable coarser\, lower cost substrate design rules.  However\, a different cost point for 2D vs. 2.5D means that interconnect and escape routing should be properly balanced between the organic substrate and the high-density routing interface\, to contain cost while delivering the proper level of chiplet integration.  As both 2D and 2.5D solutions include an organic substrate\, continuous development of higher routing density organic substrates is a prudent approach to enable cost-optimized solutions moving forward. This talk will cover current application space and limitations for 2D vs. 2.5D technology\, and potential paths forward to achieve a cost-optimized\,  complementary solution.

SUMMARY:March 26 - Advances in AI at Northeastern University
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear about the latest advances in AI at Northeastern University! \nDate\, Time and Location \nMarch 26\, 2026\n9 – 11 AM Pacific\nOnline. Register for the Zoom! \nScalable and Efficient Deep Learning: From Understanding to Generation \nIn an era where model complexity and deployment constraints increasingly collide\, achieving both scalability and efficiency in deep learning has become essential. Scalable and efficient deep learning ensures that powerful models can be trained\, deployed\, and adapted under limited computational and data resources\, enabling broader accessibility and practical application. From understanding to generation\, this talk unifies methods that cut costs while preserving capability. \nAbout the Speaker \nYitian Zhang is a fifth-year PhD student at Northeastern University\, advised by Prof. Yun Raymond Fu. His research interests center around Efficient and Scalable AI\, spanning Generative Models\, Multimodal Large Language Models\, and Foundation Models. \nGrounding Visual AI Models in Real-World Physics \nGenerative video models have made rapid progress in visual realism\, yet they frequently violate basic physical laws\, producing implausible motion and incorrect cause-effect relationships. This talk presents MoReGen\, a physics-grounded\, agentic text-to-video generation framework that integrates Newtonian physics directly into the generation process via executable physics-engine code. \nBy coupling vision–language models with trajectory-based physical evaluation and iterative feedback\, MoReGen produces videos that are both visually coherent and physically consistent. We further introduce MoRe Metrics and MoReSet\, a benchmark and dataset designed to evaluate physics fidelity beyond appearance-based metrics such as FID and FVD. Together\, this work demonstrates a path toward visual AI systems that reason about motion\, interaction\, and causality in the real world rather than hallucinating them.

SUMMARY:2026 VTS Tech Talk: Scalable Data Exchange Between Autonomous Vehicle Fleets and Cloud Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Autonomous vehicle fleets generate massive volumes of sensor and operational data that must be reliably transferred to cloud infrastructure to support development\, validation\, and production operations. Designing scalable data exchange mechanisms is challenging due to the large number of vehicles involved\, changing network conditions\, and different requirements on data volume\, latency\, and reliability. \nThis talk presents a system-level view of data exchange between autonomous vehicle fleets and cloud infrastructure. It explains how different data transfer approaches such as physical media\, high-speed wired connections\, and cellular networks are used together to support large-scale fleet operations. The talk also describes how data handling can be adapted per vehicle based on its role and operating mode\, enabling large-volume data uploads\, timely reporting of safety-critical events\, and continuous fleet health monitoring within a unified system. Key challenges related to reliability\, security\, and scaling are discussed\, along with practical lessons learned from operating real-world autonomous driving systems.

SUMMARY:IEEE PES Lecture: Unforeseen Data Center Oscillations in Dominion Energy’s Grid
DESCRIPTION:As Dominion Energy’s power grid has grown to include an increasing number of inverter-based resources and power electronic components\, we have begun to observe an increase in previously unforeseen and difficult-to-explain dynamic behaviors. In this paper\, we present a measurement-based analysis of 14.7–14.8 Hz oscillations emerging from a data center in Dominion Energy’s power grid. Synchrophasor data collected over several months were analyzed using non-parametric spectral analysis approaches to understand its inception and\, more importantly\, to characterize its behavior. What makes this case unique is the presence of an independent and unplanned exogenous excitation in the system. This excitation plays a critical role in understanding the inception and emergence of an otherwise unobservable dynamic process that\, as it destabilizes\, results in oscillations at a higher and narrower frequency range than that of conventional power system dynamics. This work highlights the importance of understanding the impact of data center loads interfaced with power electronics beyond typical concerns such as sizing and demand.

SUMMARY:The Fronek Family Endowed Lecture "Developing and Applying Vascular Digital Twins"
DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\nCardiovascular health is central to both longevity and everyday quality of life\, yet individualized disease detection and proactive care remain elusive. High-fidelity circulatory simulations are emerging as a foundation for cardiovascular digital twins—patient-specific models that integrate clinical and wearable data to enable continuous\, non-invasive monitoring. In this talk\, I will introduce new multiphysics algorithms and heterogeneous computing strategies that make these simulations scalable\, highlight the longitudinal hemodynamic mapping framework (LHMF) for capturing months of circulatory dynamics\, and describe how we are coupling simulation outputs with wearable signals to detect early disease progression in real time. Finally\, I will show how these approaches extend beyond heart disease to applications such as heart failure monitoring and cancer cell transport\, laying the groundwork for proactive medicine. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nAmanda Randles is the Alfred Winborne Mordecai and Victoria Stover Mordecai Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Biomedical Engineering at Duke University\, where she also serves as Director of the Duke Center for Computational and Digital Health Innovation.
