SUMMARY:March 26 - Advances in AI at Northeastern University
DESCRIPTION:Join us to hear about the latest advances in AI at Northeastern University! \nDate\, Time and Location \nMarch 26\, 2026\n9 – 11 AM Pacific\nOnline. Register for the Zoom! \nScalable and Efficient Deep Learning: From Understanding to Generation \nIn an era where model complexity and deployment constraints increasingly collide\, achieving both scalability and efficiency in deep learning has become essential. Scalable and efficient deep learning ensures that powerful models can be trained\, deployed\, and adapted under limited computational and data resources\, enabling broader accessibility and practical application. From understanding to generation\, this talk unifies methods that cut costs while preserving capability. \nAbout the Speaker \nYitian Zhang is a fifth-year PhD student at Northeastern University\, advised by Prof. Yun Raymond Fu. His research interests center around Efficient and Scalable AI\, spanning Generative Models\, Multimodal Large Language Models\, and Foundation Models. \nGrounding Visual AI Models in Real-World Physics \nGenerative video models have made rapid progress in visual realism\, yet they frequently violate basic physical laws\, producing implausible motion and incorrect cause-effect relationships. This talk presents MoReGen\, a physics-grounded\, agentic text-to-video generation framework that integrates Newtonian physics directly into the generation process via executable physics-engine code. \nBy coupling vision–language models with trajectory-based physical evaluation and iterative feedback\, MoReGen produces videos that are both visually coherent and physically consistent. We further introduce MoRe Metrics and MoReSet\, a benchmark and dataset designed to evaluate physics fidelity beyond appearance-based metrics such as FID and FVD. Together\, this work demonstrates a path toward visual AI systems that reason about motion\, interaction\, and causality in the real world rather than hallucinating them.

SUMMARY:IEEE Lecture - Next Generation Package Technology: How Will Organic Substrates Synergize with 2.5D?
DESCRIPTION:As chiplet packaging proliferates\, a reduction in die interconnect pitch and concomitant increase in escape routing density must be enabled to meet performance and cost targets.  The traditional 2D solution (die on organic substrate) has limitations related to pitch and escape routing capability\, which have promoted a shift to 2.5D technology (die + high density routing interface + organic substrate) in certain application spaces. Conventional thought is that use of a 2.5D solution can enable coarser\, lower cost substrate design rules.  However\, a different cost point for 2D vs. 2.5D means that interconnect and escape routing should be properly balanced between the organic substrate and the high-density routing interface\, to contain cost while delivering the proper level of chiplet integration.  As both 2D and 2.5D solutions include an organic substrate\, continuous development of higher routing density organic substrates is a prudent approach to enable cost-optimized solutions moving forward. This talk will cover current application space and limitations for 2D vs. 2.5D technology\, and potential paths forward to achieve a cost-optimized\,  complementary solution.
