Here is the link to join: https://discord.gg/8GpWuVvdbQ\nThere is a “meetup” voice/video channel that we will be using! \nWe may start meeting in person soon! This will be discussed at the meetup. We are considering having some online\, some in-person. Decisions\, decisions! \nEvery Saturday we meet up with the larger Python community (including San Diego PyLadies (https://www.meetup.com/sd-pyladies)\, Open BioInformatics San Diego (https://www.meetup.com/Open-Bioinformatics-SanDiego/) and San Diego Artificial Intelligence (https://www.meetup.com/SanDiegoAI/)) to chat\, learn\, and hang out. \nOur study group is for everyone on their Python journey\, whether you’re just starting out\, an experienced pro\, or anywhere in between. There’s no formal instruction\, just a bunch of folks who like to code. SUMMARY:The AGI Transition: How AI Affects Work and Life
DESCRIPTION:A free\, public workshop—no technical background needed\nArtificial intelligence is no longer just getting better at narrow tasks—it’s beginning to look general. Many researchers believe we’re entering the early stages of the AGI transition: a period where AI systems start to match or exceed human abilities across a wide range of domains.\nThis workshop explores what AGI actually means\, how to think about it intuitively (without hype or jargon)\, and what this transition could mean for your job\, your relationships\, and your day-to-day life—much sooner than most people expect.\nTogether\, we’ll explore questions like:\nWhat is AGI?\nHow do experts define artificial general intelligence\, and how is it different from today’s AI tools?\nWork & Jobs:\nWhich kinds of jobs are already being automated or transformed—and which ones experts believe are most likely to remain resilient?\nHuman Connection:\nHow is AI starting to replace or supplement roles once filled by coworkers\, friends\, tutors\, therapists\, and companions?\nWhat you’ll get: \n\nA clear\, beginner-friendly explanation of AGI and why it matters\nReal-world examples of how AI is already reshaping work and social life\nLive demos that highlight both impressive capabilities and emerging risks\nInteractive discussion and exercises to test your own intuitions about the future\n\nCome ready to grapple with one of the biggest transitions humanity may ever face—a shift that could redefine not just how we work\, but how we relate to each other\, find meaning\, and navigate a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines.
