SUMMARY:San Diego Bright Business Club: Monthly Founders and Experts Collaborative Meeting
DESCRIPTION:San Diego Bright Business Club · October 2026 \nTopic 3 of 12: The Purpose Matrix \nShort Summary: A curated\, non-competing collaborative table where growth-stage founders\, driven business owners ($1M+) and B2B fractional leaders name the purpose that drives their decisions\, solve scaling bottlenecks\, and stay accountable. \nThis month: “A purpose that was never said out loud is not acting on your decisions.” \nThe Opportunity: We Are Building the Room \nWe are curating the table for the San Diego Bright Business Club. \nThis is not a giant networking mixer\, a lecture\, or a passive webinar. It is an intentional\, non-competing working boardroom capped strictly at 15 to 20 seats\, operating under a strict one-seat-per-discipline model. \n• For Business Owners & Founders ($1M+): An opportunity to put an experienced sounding board of fractional executives and peers around your business. You get monthly diagnostic feedback on your operations\, decision architecture\, and valuation roadmap\, backed by systematic follow-through. \n• For B2B Experts & Fractional Leaders (CEOs\, CFOs\, CMOs\, Ops Specialists): An opportunity to lock in your category seat before it closes. You build genuine authority in front of growth-stage companies by demonstrating strategic problem-solving\, never by cold pitching. \n• For Both: A trusted peer environment where you work on the business with people who hold you accountable to what you commit to doing. \nAbout Bright Business Club \nMost business owners don’t struggle from a lack of ambition or ideas. Once a company reaches $1M and beyond\, the bottlenecks shift: operational drag\, process breakdowns\, founder over-reliance\, and slow decision velocity. \nBright Business sits right at the intersection of an executive peer advisory board and an accountability engine. \nIntegrated with the Bright Business Operating System and our AI Bright Brain\, we keep members focused between meetings so key initiatives don’t get lost in day-to-day noise. \nWhat Happens in the Room (The 3-Part Agenda) \n1. Performance Review \nWe review decisions and milestones committed during the previous cycle. Where did execution stall? What moved the needle? Backed by the Bright Brain\, members maintain genuine transparency on what actually gets completed. \n2. Operating System Roundtable: The Purpose Matrix \nAn active\, peer-driven discussion\, not a slide deck presentation. This month we break down The Purpose Matrix: \n• Naming the why behind the profit\, out loud\, in one sentence. \n• Tracing how purpose shapes customer selection\, positioning\, hiring\, and culture. \n• Spotting where an unstated purpose is already costing the business good decisions. \n3. The Live Business Challenge \nA spotlight member or guest brings an immediate\, unsolved operational roadblock to the center of the table. The room tests assumptions\, diagnoses leverage points\, and builds an actionable execution path forward. \nWho Belongs at the Table \nTo maintain high conversational density and practical ROI\, attendance is curated: \n• Growth-Stage Founders & Owners ($1M+ Revenue): Businesses in active growth mode dealing with operational scaling\, team structure\, and positioning for an eventual exit. \n• Fractional Executives & B2B Specialists: Fractional CEOs\, CFOs\, CMOs\, sales directors\, and ops specialists with a track record of scaling operating companies. \n• Non-Competing Environment: Only one business per specialty/industry is allowed in the room to ensure open\, confidential discussion. \nEvent Details & RSVP \n• Date: Thursday\, October 1\, 2026 \n• Time: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM PT \n• Venue: Kiln\, Rancho Bernardo\, San Diego\, CA \n• Club Lead: Diana Barbiani\, SBDC Business Advisor \n• Attendance: Strictly capped at 15–20 seats. One complimentary guest visit per club.

SUMMARY:UCSD SIO: Scripps Technical Forum with Del Mar Oceanographic
DESCRIPTION:Join the Technical Forum crew in welcoming representatives from Scripps’ own Del Mar Oceanographic to share updates on their Wirewalker Technology.\n\nThursday\, October 1\nTechnical Forum: 1-2:30pm\nLocation: Old Scripps Building 10\n \nLunch will be provided.\n\nWirewalker: From Scripps Prototype to Standard Tool for High-Resolution Water Column Observation\n\nThe Wirewalker is a wave-powered vertical profiler that uses surface wave motion to ratchet a sensor package down a wire and free-ascend it back to the surface\, with no battery energy spent on propulsion. First prototyped at Scripps in 1999\, it now supports over 75 peer-reviewed publications and has become a standard for cost-effective\, high-resolution observation of the upper water column. This talk covers how the platform works\, what it does well\, payload configurations\, and lessons from deployments spanning coastal to open-ocean\, moored to free-drifting. We’ll close with where the technology is headed and how it fits alongside ships\, gliders\, and moorings in a modern observing system. \nDel Mar Oceanographic\, LLC (DMO) was founded in 2015 by Scripps oceanographers and engineers to commercialize wave-powered ocean observing technology. DMO manufactures the Wirewalker under exclusive license from the University of California\, supported by technology transfer programs from NSF\, ONR\, and UC San Diego. The platform is sensor-agnostic and field-hardened\, and is in use by Scripps\, WHOI\, NASA\, the US Navy\, and research groups worldwide. DMO is based in San Diego.

SUMMARY:Kelp Night with Seatrees & UCSD Scripps Institution of Oceanography
DESCRIPTION:Join Seatrees & UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography for Kelp Night at Sea House for San Diego Climate Week! \nSan Diego’s kelp forests have declined over 90% since the 2015 El Nino event\, due to impacts from warming oceans. Now\, with a looming Super El Nino\, come learn how Seatrees and scientists from UCSD Scripps Institution of Oceanography are helping to restore these lost forests with thermally tolerant strains of kelp. \nThis restoration science is on the cutting edge of how humans can build resilience in ocean ecosystems and develop methods that can scale to help local communities everywhere protect and restore their local kelp forests. \nSeatrees will be screening Kelp Currency: Unlocking the True Value of the Ocean’s Forests followed by a conversation with Dr. Jen Smith from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD about her kelp restoration project. \nHope to sea you there! \nSeatrees – Seatrees is a nonprofit focused on transforming surf culture into a force for sustainability. Seatrees was born out of a deep commitment to protecting and restoring our ocean ecosystems because of their immense potential to fight climate change\, foster biodiversity\, and support coastal communities. \nThe Sea House is a quick 15-minute walk from the Encinitas Coaster station. Street parking available; carpooling encouraged. Please let us know if you need ADA accommodations and we can provide more details. \nBy registering for this event\, you agree to share your registration information with the organizers of San Diego Climate Week and our event platform partner\, Climatebase. Your information will not be shared with third parties.
