SUMMARY:Online: Saturday Study Group
DESCRIPTION:We are continuing our Study group online for the time being.\nWe are now meeting online in the San Diego Python Discord server! Here is the link to join: https://discord.gg/8GpWuVvdbQ\nThere is a “meetup” voice/video channel that we will be using! \nWe may start meeting in person soon! This will be discussed at the meetup. We are considering having some online\, some in-person. Decisions\, decisions! \nEvery Saturday we meet up with the larger Python community (including San Diego PyLadies (https://www.meetup.com/sd-pyladies)\, Open BioInformatics San Diego (https://www.meetup.com/Open-Bioinformatics-SanDiego/) and San Diego Artificial Intelligence (https://www.meetup.com/SanDiegoAI/)) to chat\, learn\, and hang out. \nOur study group is for everyone on their Python journey\, whether you’re just starting out\, an experienced pro\, or anywhere in between. There’s no formal instruction\, just a bunch of folks who like to code. Sometimes we talk about a specific subject\, sometimes answer questions\, whatever! \nPython Community Code of Conduct (http://www.pythonsd.org/coc): Python is much more than a software language. Python is a vibrant community made up of members from around the globe with a diverse set of skills\, personalities\, and experiences. It is through these differences that our community experiences great successes and continued growth. Overall\, we’re good to each other. We contribute to this community not because we have to\, but because we want to.

I hope you will understand that for us time at the track is limited to ever other week for 2 hours. We would like to use it for development as much as feasible. \nPlease complete your robot build before coming to the Saturdays meetup. See the 2nd Wednesday of month Beginner/Builder Meetup and our slack channel. Then bring your bot and computer to the track. \nPlease sign-up and come for our monthly Beginners and Builders Meetup before coming to the Saturdays Meetup. \nAgenda:\n10 :00 am – 1200 pm. Training and racing \nWe have built a double lane track with a yellow dashed center-line. This is a great chance to gather training data for you robot. Still figuring out hardware and/or configuring the software on the bot and laptop? Go to one of the 2nd Wed of month Beginner/Builder Meetups. \nThere will be tables\, power\, and wifi. Please bring your laptops and bot and be ready to hack. \nA special thanks to UCSD for hosting us. \nThank you.\nSD DIYRobocars. \n*** \nCheckout http://www.donkeycar.com for the build information that many of us used to get started. \nCheckout http://docs.donkeycar.com for parts lists\, hardware and software setup instructions. \nSelf-steering car from SD group:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxhsv5CViBg \nmore sample driving from San Diego meetup:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WecNKymdg3k \nsome sample driving from Oakland DIYRobocars meetup:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQn5PA6nl3I

SUMMARY:The AGI Transition
DESCRIPTION:A free\, public workshop — no technical background needed. \nArtificial intelligence is no longer just getting better at narrow tasks — it’s beginning to look general. Many researchers believe we’re entering the early stages of the AGI transition: a period where AI systems start to match or exceed human abilities across a wide range of domains. \nThis workshop explores what AGI actually means\, how to think about it intuitively (without hype or jargon)\, and what this transition could mean for your job\, your relationships\, and your day-to-day life — much sooner than most people expect. \nTogether\, we’ll explore questions like: \n\n\nWhat is AGI? How do experts define artificial general intelligence\, and how is it different from today’s AI tools? \n\n\nWork & Jobs: Which kinds of jobs are already being automated or transformed — and which ones experts believe are most likely to remain resilient? \n\n\nHuman Connection: How is AI starting to replace or supplement roles once filled by coworkers\, friends\, tutors\, therapists\, and companions? \n\n\nRobots & the Physical World: What happens when advanced AI is paired with rapidly improving robotics — and which parts of the economy could change next? \n\n\nWhat you’ll get: \n\n\nA clear\, beginner-friendly explanation of AGI and why it matters \n\n\nReal-world examples of how AI is already reshaping work and social life \n\n\nLive demos that highlight both impressive capabilities and emerging risks \n\n\nInteractive discussion and exercises to test your own intuitions about the future \n\n\nCome ready to grapple with one of the biggest transitions humanity may ever face — a shift that could redefine not just how we work\, but how we relate to each other\, find meaning\, and navigate a world increasingly shaped by intelligent machines.
