What better spot for Tech Coffee than Little Italy\, the coffee capital of San Diego! \nJoin us at Portal Coffee overlooking the beautiful Waterfront Park and San Diego Harbor. \nThere’s lots of available street parking along Kettner between Fir and Beech St just 1-3 blocks from Portal Coffee. See the Parking Map attached image. We’re also one block from the MTA Trolley and 2 blocks from Amtrak and the Coaster. \nCome by for some networking\, sharing\, brainstorming\, and mentoring. And we love it when people want to share what they are working on! \nThere is no agenda\, which means you can’t be late – come when you can\, leave when you need to. SUMMARY:Distrusting the Out-Party: Partisan Disbelief and Biased Updating
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will take place on Monday April 6\, 5–6 p.m. (PDT) | Tuesday April 7\, 9–10 a.m. (KST) \nWhy do people discount information when it comes from the “other side\,” even on basic\, nonpartisan facts? \nIn this webinar\, Shinnosuke Kikuchi\, a GPS faculty member\, will talk about “partisan disbelief in knowledge” — the tendency to assume one’s own political group is more knowledgeable than the out-party — and how that perception shapes how people learn from information. \nJoin us as Kikuchi highlights why polarization can persist even outside explicitly political issues\, and what this implies for communication and shared understanding. Woo Chang Kang of Korea University\, a 2023 visiting scholar at GPS\, will join Kikuchi to provide comments. \nThis public lecture series is organized by the Korea-Pacific Program at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS).
