We are seeking an experienced Operations Engineer – AWS Cloud for our customer in San Diego, Calif. This is a direct hire position with a growing company in the wireless health and wellness industry.
About the Team
The Operations team is responsible for deployment and support for all public-facing and internal web applications and services. They provide 24×7 support for web applications & databases as required in an on-call rotation.
This team is a very tight-knit group that is always looking out for each other, and the company’s bottom line. Their role is to keep everything deploying smoothly, monitor the systems in use, resolve any issues as they arise, and keep all systems available to customers.
You’ll be led by a manager who likes to empower his team to make decisions and provides them the autonomy to implement them.
About the Role:
As an Operations Engineer – AWS Cloud, you are responsible for developing, configuring, installing, and maintaining technology in a mission critical environment. This professional will participate in departmental projects by assisting in the development of project plans, documentation, and performing of project tasks. Responsibilities also include performing daily system maintenance tasks and participating in on-call duty. Additionally, this person must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment where projects may take as little as a few days from conception to deployment. This is achieved by executing our software configuration deliverables and database operations deliverables and assisting with the design and optimization of the deployment process to test and production systems. This position will work closely with our Software Engineering team to optimize performance and security on our public web infrastructure, and with the DevOps team to trouble shoot and diagnose root cause of issues as they occur in production
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
Practical experience with most of if not all components of AWS: EC2, Beanstalk, ELB, Route53, S3, Cloudfront, SNS, SWF, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB, ElasticCache, IAM, CloudFormation & RedisLabs
3+ years experience with configuration and maintenance of common web based applications such as Apache (1.x/2.x), Java based application Server architectures (Tomcat/Weblogic/Nginx), IIS
3+ years’ experience with database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or SQL Server)
3+ years’ experience with shell scripting
